New Moon – Working Practice

Time isn’t linear

We are working on a new story — actually, no, it’s not even that yet. We are working on our idea for a new story and our resolve to write it.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have all day for that. I’ve got other work to do. We are not trying to find lots of time, we are trying to carve out some QUIET time. Quality over quantity.

So what that means for me is getting up earlier for the next couple of days. Giving myself a stolen hour to work on my IDEA and INTENT each day (the next two sections). If I sleep in, it’s not the end of the world. Maybe I’ll steal 2 lots of 30 mins some other time during the day.

Work with pen and paper

I’ll try to put up a post on the scientific reasons as to why I’m asking you to do this.

Until then, just trust me on this bit.

Pen and paper — I have the messiest handwriting in the world, but I stick to this religiously. It’s not about keeping a perfect record, it’s about working through something.

Minimal social media for these few days

If you’ve got posts you must do, pick a time or pre-prepare them — use Later or something similar. Limit it.

Don’t go looking at other people’s stuff and feeling inadequate. That’s just self-sabotage and you don’t need that right now.

Basically, you’re working like a monk for this bit, because you need to believe in this thing before you bust out and start pushing forward.

Don’t distract yourself

This is a new story idea. You don’t know everything yet. That’s uncomfortable.

Just sit with it. Set a timer for each session and see it through.

Don’t reach for your phone, don’t scroll through Insta or Twitter.

Try to get something down — it’s only the first layer. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT! Work on your idea and intent (the parts to follow).

Even if you think you’ve done enough, SIT WITH IT SOME MORE. Don’t charge ahead — that’s some other way of working, not this way.

Right, now we’re moving onto the IDEA
