Go Jess

Date

I surf with this girl (in the clip, wearing the beanie). Jess is a beautiful person and amazing surfer, and my tiny mind was blown into even tinier bits when I just-by-chance checked out the clip for one of my favourite songs and there she be! And Palmie – loved seeing it looking so broodingly gothic, like it might eat Braxtons and spit out their bones. Nice clip, too. Baz could check it out for pointers on the basics. Wax on board – check. Leg rope – check. Surfer riding wave-of-consequence focused on the wave, not using superhuman powers of vision to scope out inhabitants of far away buildings – check. No Pacific Ocean reef breaks magically transported to the middle of the Hamptons – check. And then there’s the more general problem of how ANYBODY who has waves like that all to themselves (albeit in the Hamptons) could be upset about anything, least of all some man who’s in a rush to don a tux for a covers band. She’s living the surfing dream! She should be like: See ya! Wouldn’t want to be ya!

I know, I know. I’m nitpicking. Frankly, Baz can do whatever he wants. I couldn’t have loved Romeo and Juliet any harder, ditto Gatsby (first half more than the second half), and Strictly Ballroom was shiny special. I haven’t loved the other films, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate them. (I don’t know what it is, but I always feel he’s better before it all descends into love drama). Also – Romeo and Juliet. Best. Soundtrack. Ever. (Apart from Reservoir Dogs. And Remember The Titans.)

Anyway, trying to find a take-home in all this, and I think it might be that you don’t always need a lot of money to make something good.
